After the recent comissioned by the Cultural Programs of The National Academy of Sciences to design a brochure for REPLICA, I was asked to design the brochure for the exhibition of Walton Ford. an American artist who paints large scale watercolors in the style of Audubon's naturalist illustrations. Each painting is a meticulous study in flora and fauna, while being filled with symbols, clues and jokes referencing a multitude of texts from colonial literature and folktales to travel guides. Ford's paintings are complex narratives that critique the history of colonialism, industrialism, politics, natural science, and man's effect on the environment.

I was recently comissioned by the Cultural Programs of The National Academy of Sciences to design a brochure for REPLICA, a new collaborative piece by Jonah Bokaer. Replica examines memory loss, pattern recognition, and perceptual faculties as they apply to the human body. In collaboration with visual artist Daniel Arsham, the piece employs built spaces, objects, lighting, and other media to create the illusion of an expanded space through the use of video and other still images.

Fundacio Jubert Figueras | Fundaments

Apart from their Annual Reports I do also design the semestral publication called Fundaments. It’s objective it to keep memebers, patrons and friends informed of the fundamental tasks and news that are happening inside everyday’s work at this Foundation. This mailer publication is set in two languages, catalan and spanish, ships folded into an Din-a-5 size with no need for envelope. It is currently on issue #10.

It does not matter how hard economical crisis might strike, or how hard it gets to rise funds, there are always families in the need of attention and help. CHINA | Rhizome — Lijiang

Yesterday we finally arrived at Lijiang, in the province of Yunnan, in China. It’s a wonderful opportunity to have been invited by Rhizome to be here developing personal projects for the next four months. In the hopes of learning some chinese calligraphy and creating some different body of work, we are very happy to be here sharing residency with sound artist Peter Sinclair. More updates shortly.

My good and old friend Juan Enrique Ureña and his partner Jonas started Cutre with a first shop in Pozo Izquierdo, Gran Canaria, more than 10 years ago. I was there and helped out with some drawinds, lettering and whatever was needed before or after a good session on the waves.

Ten years later they now have several stores, a restaurant, rental cars, hostal and apartments in Pozo. If you are as crazzy about windsurf as me, you should contact them to help you organanize your trip to Gran Canaria.

On my last visit this summer i drew some lettering for them, and this is my
favorite sketch that might become their new logo, or maybe just one of many.

The official launch of I AM BECAUSE WE ARE, the book, was yesterday, April 2nd 2009. The event at the PowerHouse Arena, in Brooklyn featured the presentation of the book, an exhibition and an online auction to raise funds for Raising Malawi, a non-profit charitable organization working on behalf of orphaned and vulnerable children in Malawi.

Thanks to the partnering with Xocoa this christmas the FJF was able to provide its patrons, members and collaborators with this cute gift to celebrate the fifth anniversary. The chocolate key symbolizes the effort made by many with their donations that have allow the Foundation to help the families of the sick misplaced people that come to Barcelona. Their efforts have given FJF the possibility of managing 5 apartments and to be able to host 12 families simultaneously. Amazing!
